The 2022 Annual Forever Lazy Bike, Swim and Fashion Show
In the early 2010s all the way to 2017, a few friends and I would spend most New Year Days riding the rough trails of Greenbrier State Park in MD. There was usually snow on the ground and sometimes ice in the lake. One year, Pete Beers, one of those friends and pretty much the instigator of those New Year rides (and really, any Greenbrier ride) took the opportunity to field-test a Forever Lazy, a Snuggy-like onesie that the late night TV commercial said you could do anything in it. So he bought a pink one and tested it as a mountain bike suit. Then at the end of the ride, he decided to test it further as a survival suit by going into the freaking cold lake. The annual Bike, Swim and Fashion Show, we called the annual event.
Pete died in the summer of 2020 when a tree fell on him while he was biking
This year, one of the friends and I went back for the tradition, although we did it yesterday because it rained on Jan 1. Pete’s widow was there too, although she did not ride or swim. I did wear the Forever Lazy that she had given me, and I went and took a dip in the lake. Of course, the temps were in the 60’s so it wasn’t quite as hardcore. But still fun.
Here is the video of Pete field-testing the Forever Lazy. The crazy laugh you hear in the vid is mine.
